Fear doesn't have to be cured before a household can function.

Your clients know the treatment path. What they often can't get is help with the house they go home to — where the dog already lives, the decision is made, and their fear is treated as an inconvenience to be worked around.

Two parts. A short one for the person who is afraid, giving them the position they're entitled to and asking them to implement nothing. A longer one for everyone else, which is where the work actually sits.

  • what the frightened person is entitled to say
  • the sentences that sound reassuring and aren't
  • the honest limit
  • control first, think second
  • their path first — rooms and routes
  • off-limits spaces as real rules
  • three things children must never do

I wrote this for my family. Then I shared it with the people I thought might get something from it. Use it, ignore it, or write back and tell me how to make it better. Up to you.
